In the Garden

Welcome to the Garden!

JHJ’s In the Garden page will feature information about plants, butterfly gardening, herb gardening, and more.

As I build this website, I have to make choices about where to put my efforts, as I am a 1-woman operation! As my sis-in-law Diane said, “Oh, so you are kind of like Martha Stewart except you do everything yourself.” Well, not exactly…no one can be Martha except Martha…but kind of.

I garden, I cook, I build things, I write, I create the content, build the videos, take the photos, build the website, post on social media (which terrifies me), and host a YouTube channel.

I am living by my own mantras: Lose the fear of trying new things! Learn by doing! Do that which you don’t know how to do so you can learn how to do it!

For these first few months, I with be putting my efforts  into the In the Kitchen and Projects pages. But I will occasionally post videos and photos here for your enjoyment!

As spring approaches, we will explore all sorts of things in the garden. For now, enjoy a couple of short video tours. And do check back soon…and later…and later for more! Because we are growing! (Pun intended.)

In the Garden

We live in the city in a hundred-year old house in a hundred-year-old neighborhood. Our lot is small, only 165 x 65 feet, and in small spaces, design is crucial. We created a backyard oasis using every inch of space.

The First Days of Spring

Enjoy the beauty of the first days of spring in this stunning video. Relax and enjoy as flowers, bulbs, shrubs, and trees explode with color. Coming at 12 am April 4.

December Colors

I love the colors in my December garden in South Carolina. I made this video to show off the reds and greens displayed in December. It is January as I write this, and the colors are pretty much gone…for now.
